Join The Gauteng & Northern Areas Bat Interest Group!

WHY DO PEOPLE BECOME INVOLVED IN A BAT INTEREST GROUP?

  • Basic Caring Instinct

The desire to become involved in bat conservation, often stems from a basic instinct to care for the helpless, 'underdogs' in nature. Members do not get paid for the time, or energy they provide to help bats in need. The greatest reward to any member of a bat interest group is watching a wild animal go free, knowing they helped to make it possible.

  • Involvement in Conservation

Your concern for bats is reason enough to join our interest group. The knowledge required to help with bat conservation and education of others, will be provided to you in the form of training programmes, a training manual, newsletters and the knowledge and experience gained during excursions to interesting places where bats are found.

  • Knowledge is Power!

Being knowledgeable about bats, is the greatest asset to bat conservation. Sharing this knowledge with others, will prevent detrimental actions of humans through ignorance, suspicion, pesticide poisoning, roost destruction and roost closure, habitat loss, over-exploitation, and extermination as pests.

  • We Need You!

We need your help in safeguarding bats as an essential resource in our region. We need as many members as possible to transform negative perceptions about bats and help preserve invaluable ecosystems.

Did you Know? These action groups have given amateurs, for the first time, a role in bat conservation in this country!
